A crash cymbal produces a loud, sharp "crash" sound and is used mainly for explosive accents. Though crash cymbals can be played with a drum stick or mallet when used with a drum set, crash cymbals are traditionally used in pairs, each one being held by a strap set in the bell. The cymbals are then struck against each other to produce a crashing sound.
